GLDP1 SWY26 (2014)

The Global Leader’s Development Program (GLDP) was held between January 27th to February 20th in 2014. The program had an increased focus on leadership education for young leaders in the globalizing world. This edition of the program was comprised to a shorter sea voyage with 8 days on shore, 9 days on board and 8 days on overseas locations for the Japanese Participating Youth (JPY’s).

A total of 211 young people attended the cultural exchange program of which 87 were Japanese Participating Youth (JPY) and 71 was Overseas Participating Youth (OPYs).

The port of call activities took place in Ishinomaki City. They provided participating youth (PYs) with a chance to learn about the damage of the Great East Japan Earthquake by visiting the affected city, as well as to engage in workshops and study visits about how assistance should be provided. Focus was also given to the identification of youth contribution to society, encouraging the participants to establish their own social activities.

During the program, all participants followed a workshop program in one of the following topics:

  • Youth Entrepreneurship Course: Entrepreneurship can create a future society we want!
  • Environment Course Information: Sustainable societies: Creating a community-based affluent life
  • Media Course: Be critical of the information and be a good commander of media
  • Cross-cultural Understanding Course: Enjoy the differences – avoiding cultural clash and creating diversity
